Il Cortile ('The Courtyard') is the only Michelin-starred Italian-Mediterranean restaurant in the Haut-Rhin, set in a 16th-century courtyard in Mulhouse's pedestrian old town. Chef Jean-Michel Feger has cooked here since 2001 and has built a distinctly Provençal-Italian cuisine far from Alsatian terroir: saffron risotto with squid, ravioli with lobster and morels, turbot in yellow wine, and limoncello baba. The summer terrace with its orange and lemon trees — incongruous in Alsace — creates an unmistakeable Mediterranean atmosphere.
