Alexis Albrecht and his wife Évelyne run Au Vieux Couvent — a family restaurant that has held its Michelin star since 1983 (42 consecutive years). Albrecht was named Pastry Chef of the Year 2015 by Gault & Millau, which confirms the exceptional quality of his dessert programme. The restaurant holds the Michelin Green Star for sustainable gastronomy: it grows 80% of its ingredients on a 6,000m² (60-acre) family vegetable garden, with additional sourcing from local fishermen and hunters. The Rhine eel — caught from the Rhine river itself — is a house specialty unique in Alsace gastronomy. The restaurant sits in a former convent in Rhinau, a Rhine-side village south of Strasbourg.
